If you were gone, make sure to get this from me! - We finished our cell membrane model that we started on Tuesday. If you were gone, you don't need to do anything to make this up - your group should be taking care of it for you. - We took notes on pg. 8 to learn about the difference between passive and active transport. If you were were gone, you need to get those notes, then answer practice questions 1-4 on pg. 10 (the title of the page is "Diffusion Summary".) - We went back to pg. 9 to take more notes about osmosis. Get those notes from the class notebook, then watch this video to help you understand the concept fully:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDDqY7IZhxQ - I passed out a lab sheet for a lab that you will be doing on Friday. Today, we just did some thinking work to prep for doi...

Biology: - If you were gone today, you missed a quiz. To be prepared for this, make sure you can fill out the diagram on pg. 2 from memory, make sure you can match the name of the organelle to its definition, and make sure you can answer critical thinking questions about the organelles (like the warmup yesterday). - You missed a modeling activity where we made phospholipids out of marshmallows and pipe cleaners. You will be able to make this up in class on Monday. Honors Bio: see above Natural Resources: - We did walking notes to get information in your notes about all the keystone species. If you were gone, you can get those notes from the class notebook. - We took notes on the Endangered Species Act. If you were gone, get those notes from the class notebook. - I passed out a study guide for the test on Tuesday. If you were gone, get this from me.

Wednesday/Thursday, 10/15 - 10/16

Biology: - If you were gone today, you need to get the notes on pgs. 4-5. I would also recommend looking at the warmup questions for today to give you a small sample of what the quiz will be like on Friday. - Take a look at this video to see an animation of the cytoskeleton and the protein production process:  The Inner Life of the Cell Animation - We did lab where we looked at various cells under the microscope. If you were gone, you are not required to make this up, but if you want to out of curiosity, feel free to stop by in office hours. - Reminders: quiz on Friday, Unit 2 retake deadline on Monday. Honors Biology: see above. In addition, watch this video about kinesin:  What is Kinesin? Ron Vale Explains Natural Resources: today we took a field trip to Birds of Prey. If you were gone, there is nothing you need to do to make this up.

Biology: - Remember: you will have a quiz this Friday (10/17) on the organelles and their functions. - Remember: the deadline for retaking the unit 2 test is Monday, 10/20. I have a meeting at lunch, so I am only available after school. If you can't make that time, schedule a time with me to take the test earlier. - Today we finished section 1 in the notes and did the practice section on the top of pg. 2. If you were gone, get those notes and look through those practice questions. - We moved on to section 2 in the notes. Use the class notebook to see how far your class got, and get caught up to that point. Note: the highlighted definitions show you the exact wording that will be used on the quiz. Spend some time quizzing yourself on the organelles and their functions to prep for the quiz on Friday. Honors Biology: See above. Natural Resources: - Remember we have a field trip tomorrow that will go through lunch. Bring food! - Today I announced that you will have a unit 2 test a week...

Monday, 10/13/25

Biology: - Today you got your unit 2 test back. I gave people the opportunity to get some points back on their test by making corrections. If you were gone and you want an opportunity to gain points back, you need to schedule a time with me outside of class! - I explained the retake system: ○ Make corrections for every question you missed.  You can't take your test with you, so if you need more time for this, you'll have to see me at lunch or office hours. ○ Fill out the "Test Retake Reflection Form" (find one above Sammy's tank). Do what it says (make corrections, meet with me to discuss, study minimum 2 hours, get signed by a parent.) ○ The retake is scheduled for a week from today. If you cannot make this time, you'll need to plan another time with me. Make sure you know everything on the study guide. - I passed out the unit 3 notes packet. We took notes on section 1 and did the practice on the top of pg. 2. If you were gone, you need to...

Biology: If you were gone, you missed the unit 2 test. Communicate with me to find a time to take that. If you were gone, please also make sure that you turn in the practice problems in the notes packet (see the ones I assigned yesterday), and also complete your study guide to prepare for the test and be eligible for a retake. Honors biology: See above. Natural Resources: If you were gone, I announced that you don't need to worry about turning in the Hyatt biodiversity data analysis from Friday. I decided to take that assignment off your plate. Instead, we discussed it all together. If you were gone, you also missed some videos and notes. To catch up, just get the notes from the class notebook.

Monday, 10/6/25

Biology: I am gone today and you have a sub. If you were gone too, this is what you need to do to catch up: - Answer practice questions on pg. 8 in your notes packet: 1-4, 6, 9-27, 29-31, 36-45, and 47-49. Then rip these questions out of your notes packet, re-staple it, write your name on it, and turn it in. - Make sure you have your study guide completed before the test on Tuesday (tomorrow). Honors Biology : same as above, with the addition of practice problem #32. Natural Resources: Today was your last poster work day. Remember to follow the rubric religiously as you put together all the components of your poster. The final deadline for your poster is 11:59 PM on Wednesday, 10/8. If you turn it in by this deadline, I will grade it, give you feedback, and allow you to resubmit any components that were complete before you turned it in. If you turn it in after this deadline, you forfeit the ability to resubmit, and you will lose points every day it is late.

Friday, 10/3/25

Biology: ANNOUNCEMENT: I am moving the test from Monday the 6th to Tuesday the 7th. If you missed class today, here is what you need to do to catch up: 1. Fill out your macromolecules foldable with examples and functions (from notes pg. 5-6.) Note: once your foldable is completed with this information (including the info we added earlier this week), it will satisfy questions 15-16 on the study guide, so you don't have to write out the info again. 2. Make sure you have finished all the questions in the murder lab and get that turned in. If you were gone on block day, remember you don't have to do this lab, but I did assign some questions for you to stay caught up. 3. Work on your study guide. You will have a chance to check it with the key on Monday if you weren't able to today. 4. There is a Blooket available for you to study with on the class notebook. It only covers the macromolecules section, so be careful not to use this exclusively as your only study tool. Honors Bio...
