Biology: - Today we spent most of the day finishing the stations to fill out the macromolecules foldable. Then we took some notes on pgs. 5-6. If you were gone, you will need to fill out the foldable at another time (either after the lab on block day, or during class on Friday, or in office hours). What you can do right now is: 1) spend some time working on your study guide, and 2) check the class notebook to see notes you missed on pgs. 5-6. Remember: your unit 2 test is Monday 10/6. Honors biology: See above Natural Resources: - I assigned questions 3-5 in the unit 2 practice questions. (this means 1-5 have now been assigned to you). - I passed out the Biodiversity Survey packet and we prepared for our surveys at Hyatt tomorrow. If you were gone, I will give you a packet tomorrow and your group can fill you in. Remember: your water poster is due Wednesday 10/8.

Biology: - Quiz on pgs. 1-3. If you were gone, talk with me to schedule a time to take this. - Finish notes on pg. 4. Get those from the class notebook if you were gone. - Learn about the "fatberg": if you were gone, watch this video [ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HjFjpGexf1g ] and then answer the fatberg question on pg. 7 in your notes packet. - Start taking notes on section 3. Get these from the class notebook. Honors biology: see above. In addition, we made predictions about what would happen if certain liquids were combined: would they mix well, or would they separate? This is to emphasize that polar liquids mix well with polar liquids, nonpolar mixes with nonpolar, and polar and nonpolar do NOT mix well. Be prepared for a question like this to show up on the test: I will show you the molecular formula of a compound, and you will have to tell me what it will mix with or not. Natural Resources:  Finish data analysis, create 5 guidelines for how to steward water well, a...

If you were gone, you can catch up with this on Monday - get a lab sheet from me, I'll have you join a group, you can copy their information from Friday, and then you can finish the rest of the stations with them. Honors biology: See above. Natural Resources: Today I gave you some time to finish the practice data analysis that we started on Tuesday, then you started the real data analysis with the data we collected at the river (see the Teams assignment called "Boise River Data Analysis"). This data analysis is due by Tuesday night (you will have class time Monday and Tuesday to work on this).

Wednesday/Thursday, 9/17 - 9/18

Biology: - Today we finished the section 1 notes, did the section 1 summary questions on pg. 3 of the notes packet, then did several class activities to practice the comments. If you were gone, get the notes from the class notebook and do those summary questions on your own (then check with the answers on the class notebook.) ALSO: depending on how far we got, some classes were assigned practice problems in the notes packet. See pg. 8 in "Unit 2 Notes Packet" on the class notebook to see if there were any practice problems assigned for your class period. If you were gone today, I would recommend watching this video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5e7V5wkhos Honors biology: See above - we finished all the notes on pg. 3, so make sure you get all of those. Natural Resources: Field trip to the Water Renewal Facility. Biology: - Today we started unit 2. I passed out a new notes packet, I did a demo for you, you did your best to explain the demo (by writing an explanation on pg. 7 in your notes), then we took notes on pg. 1. If you were gone, watch this YouTube video to see the demonstration:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkYz1WlpRSQ , then get a notes packet from me, then write your best explanation of this on pg. 7, then get the notes you missed on pg. 1. 4th period: I assigned practice problems (pg. 8) #1-4 and 6. You are responsible for getting those done by the end of the unit. DON'T FORGET: if you want to retake the unit 1 test, you need to go through the process I explained in yesterday's post. You have until Monday the 22nd to take care of the retake process.  Honors Biology: See above. Natural Resources: - Today we practiced analyzing data so you are prepared to analyze the data from the Boise River for your poster. I assigned a Teams assignment called "Practice Data Analysis...

Monday, 9/15/25

Biology: Today we went over the unit 1 test and I explained how to do a retake. If you were gone, you need to ask me to see your test! Also read through the information below to learn how to do a retake: How to do a retake: ○ Make corrections for every question you missed.  You can't take your test with you, so if you need more time for this, you'll have to see me at lunch or office hours. ○ Fill out the "Test Retake Reflection Form" (find one above Sammy's tank). Do what it says (make corrections, meet with me to discuss, study minimum 2 hours, get signed by a parent.) ○ The retake is scheduled for next Monday the 22nd after school. If you cannot make this time, you'll need to plan another time with me. Honors bio: same as above. We also discussed experiment ethics - if you were gone, look at pg. 7 on the class notebook and copy that down into your unit 1 notes packet. Natural Resources: Today was a work day to finish the Teams assignm...

Biology : Unit 1 Test - If you were gone, schedule a time with me to make up your test next week.  ALSO: make sure you get your Daphnia Data Analysis assignment submitted on Teams.  Honors bio : see above Natural Resources : - Today I assigned part 2 of the water poster project: Educate the People. You can find this assignment on Teams. You have class time on Friday (today) and Monday to work on this. It is due on Tuesday (no class time to work on Tuesday).

Wednesday/Thursday 9/10 - 9/11

Biology: - Today we worked on pg. 7 in the notes packet: what makes a good experiment? We're talking about ethics, like right and wrong. We did scripture analysis to develop a list of criteria we can use to evaluate whether an experiment is ethical or not. Then we looked at some examples of experiments and debated their ethics. If you were gone, you need to copy down notes for pg. 7 (you can find the notes in the class notebook. Chat me if you're not sure how to do that.) On the test, I will give you an example of an experiment, and you will have to make claims about the ethics of the experiment, then justify those claims with key points from scripture. The scripture will be provided for you. You just need to be able to connect the dots. - The second half of class was your time to finish the data analysis assignment and then work on your study guide to prep for the test on Friday. Note that I changed the deadline of the data analysis assignment to Friday. If you want to check...

Tuesday, 9/9/25

Biology: Today we spent all of class working on the Teams assignment called "Daphnia Data Analysis". If you were gone, you can complete this assignment on your own. Chat me if you have questions or come see me in office hours. Also, sad news: there are not enough surviving Daphnia for us to be able to do the part 3 experiment (testing your own variable).  Honors Biology:  See above, except note the difference for you: you will be doing part 3 of the daphnia experiment tomorrow. There are only enough Daphnia left to do this with the honors classes. Tomorrow, we will do this \experiment, then finish the data analysis assignment, then spend the rest of class working on study guide/preparing for the test on Friday. Natural Resources: - Reminder: we have a field trip tomorrow. Meet on the bus and dress for the weather. - The eutrophication assignment is due by the end of the day today. - The handout I gave you yesterday (Causes and Effects of Water Quality Characteristics) is due ...

Monday, 9/8/25

Biology: Today we did the daphnia lab and collected data to see how ethanol affects heart rate. If you were gone, there is nothing you need to do to make up this lab - I'm not going to have you come in to collect your own data. You will still be able to do the analysis assignment using the class data. Honors Biology: See above. Natural Resources: - I announced a field trip for this Wednesday: going to the river to test water quality. - I showed you a couple videos to help explain eutrophication (a concept we took notes on on Friday). Here are the links to those videos in case you want to watch them:  Eutrophication Explained Biggest Ever Dead Zone In Gulf Of Mexico - I gave you 15 minutes to work on the assignment in the class notebook called "Eutrophication Questions". You need to read the article attached to the assignment and answer the questions. (you will have to copy the assignment into your own notebook to type on it). - I passed out a piece of paper called "C...

Friday, 9/5/25

Biology: - I checked off your desktop apps on your laptops. If you were gone, you need to see me in office hours and show me the desktop apps on your laptop. It will go in the gradebook as "M" (missing) until you show me. - We took the unit 1 quiz. If you were gone, you need to schedule a time with me next week at lunch or after school to take this. To complete this assignment, you need to find the "Assignments" tab on the class notebook, then copy and paste the eutrophication assignment page into yo...

Wednesday/Thursday, 9/3 - 9/4

Biology: - I passed out the study guide for the Unit 1 Test (Friday, 9/12). If you were gone, here is what I explained: This study guide is your ticket for being able to retake the test. If you turn in a completed study guide on the day of the test BEFORE you take your test, then you are eligible for a retake if needed. If you don't turn in a study guide, you won't be penalized - it just means you won't be able to retake the test.  You can choose to complete your study guide however you'd like. If you choose to do it on paper, then I recommend using additional notebook paper to give yourself enough room to answer all the questions thoroughly. I will have a key available for you next week. When you are finished with your study guide, you can check it with my key. This must be done in class or during office hours because I don't ever post the key. - We did a microscope lab to familiarize yourself with a microscope so we can use it for an experiment next week. If you...

Tuesday, 9/2/25

Biology: - We reviewed unit 1 content by doing a butcher paper brain dump activity. If you were gone, you don't need to make this up. - I announced that we will have a quiz this Friday the 5th and a test next Friday the 12th. Tomorrow I will be handing out a study guide for the test. - We did a couple more practice problems in the notes packet on pgs. 8-9. If you were gone, I want you to finish problems 1-4, then check your answers by looking at my answers on the class notebook. - We did an activity where you design an experiment based on a prompt that I give you. If you were gone, you don't need to make this up. Honors Biology : See above. Natural Resources: - Announcement: we have a field trip tomorrow! We will be learning how to chemically test water quality at Settler's Pond. We will be back by lunch. You need to bring your notebook, a pencil, and shoes that can get dirty. - We took notes about turbidity and temperature (2 of the 6 water quality characteristics). If yo...
